Journal Management
Introduction
The International Journal of Data Science (IJoDS) is committed to efficient and editorially independent journal management. This policy outlines the infrastructure, business model, and operational processes that ensure the quality and integrity of the journal.
Description
Effective journal management requires a well-described and implemented infrastructure, including a clear business model, transparent policies, efficient processes, and appropriate software for managing submissions and peer review. Editorial independence, along with proper training and management of editorial boards and staff, is crucial for the journal's integrity.
The Policy
- Ownership and Governance:
- IJoDS is published by the Indonesian Society for Knowledge and Human Development (INSIGHT).
- The journal has an Editorial Board comprised of recognized experts in data science and related fields. Full names and affiliations of editorial board members are provided on the journal's website (https://ijods.org/). Members agree to serve, and we keep the list up-to-date.
- Editorial Independence: Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit (originality, clarity, significance, and validity of the research) and relevance to the journal's scope. These decisions are independent of the publisher (INSIGHT), any collaborating organizations (e.g., EBSCO Information Services), or financial considerations such as APCs.
- Business Model:
- IJoDS is an open-access journal.
- Revenue is primarily generated through Article Processing Charges (APCs) for accepted articles. We will clearly state any other potential revenue sources, such as sponsorship, and ensure they do not influence editorial decisions.
- Website and Digital Presence:
- The journal's website (https://ijods.org/) is regularly maintained and provides comprehensive information about IJoDS, including its aims and scope, target readership, types of manuscripts considered, editorial board, and all policies.
- The website uses HTTPS to ensure security.
- Publishing Schedule: IJoDS is published biannually. The publishing frequency is clearly described on the website.
- Archiving: Portico digitally preserves IJoDS content and lists it in the Keepers Registry to ensure long-term accessibility.
- Advertising: Currently, IJoDS does not accept advertising. If this policy changes, a clear advertising policy will be developed and published, ensuring that advertisements are distinct from editorial content and do not influence editorial decisions.
- Direct Marketing: Any direct marketing activities undertaken by IJoDS are appropriate, targeted, and unobtrusive, providing truthful information.
- Management and Training:
- The editorial office ensures efficient handling of manuscripts using an online submission and peer review management system.
- Editorial board members and staff receive guidance and training on best practices in publication ethics and editorial management.
Implementation of the Policy
- Clear Information: All policies, processes, and management structures are clearly described on the IJoDS website. This includes ISSNs, contact information for the editorial office, and full editor details.
- Editorial Board Management: The Editorial Board is regularly reviewed to ensure its composition remains relevant and its members are active. Procedures for appointing new members are established by the Editor-in-Chief in consultation with the publisher.
- Software and Systems: IJoDS utilizes Open Journal Systems (OJS) for manuscript submission, peer review, and overall journal management, ensuring an efficient and secure workflow.
- Financial Transparency: Information about APCs (USD 50 per accepted article, no submission fee) and any other revenue sources is transparently provided on the journal website.
- Collaboration: IJoDS collaborates with EBSCO Information Services to maximize the reach and visibility of its content; this collaboration does not influence editorial decisions.
- Adherence to Ethical Standards: IJoDS adheres to established ethical standards in publishing. The journal may undertake periodic audits to ensure compliance.
